Priestess Servants of the God
|
| Description: | Women from noble families and tribal clans were described as "hemet netjers" from the Old Kingdom onwards. Usually female Servants of the God Amen were associated with agricultural and or medicinal ceremonies dedicated to specific goddesses. During the Middle Kingdom the priesthood of Het-Hert (Hathor) was mainly female, although administrative and leading positions were often held by related men. At one occasion during the Third Intermediate Period there was a royal lady titled Godīs Wife of Amen. She was served by female acolytes, lived in celibacy and adopted another royal lady to secure the successor-ship. |

This is the same photo as the other one in this album, but better quality. I think the comment should go in the description area and other photo be deleted.
